Nobby (Peter Lees Walmesley 1908 - 1942)

Peter Walmesley 'Lees' worked for numerous newspapers and periodicals such as the Daily Express, News Chronicle, Sunday Graphic, Punch, Strand, Bystander and Lilliput. His first political cartoon appeared in the Sunday Graphic on 17 September 1939 alongside Clive Uptton. Lees also produced a war-time cartoon strip about a hapless private called Nobby. During the Second World War, he served with the Royal Artillery and sent cartoons home from the front.
